Silver & Pearls
An intricate film of swoon worthy silks, pure velvets, mother~of~pearl gifts, handmade paperie, dishes of mouth~watering food & glorious tastemaker travels
One spring day on an island in the Pacific Ocean I first tasted joy ~ an incomparable sensation and a complete surprise in my life. I was standing in a new friends’ home during a workshop I’d come to attend and we were all talking and enjoying lunch together. My memory is of an elegant island setting complete with white tent between the atelier and the home where the workshop gathered for presentations. A home filled with quiet sunlight, warm voices, the clink of silverware on ceramic dishes, a kind of hum of happiness, exotic bouquets decorated the open living/dining room, a sense of simplicity and generosity prevailed. I can’t even recall exactly whether it was a tiramisu, or a custard or a layered treat of some kind, all I can say is when I lifted the spoon to my lips this dessert transformed my life. I’d never considered how the fruit of the tree of life must have tasted to the saints of the ancient world, all I can tell you is that this sensation of a flower, jasmin, delicate, ethereal, sultry, graceful, sexy and potent, bloomed in my mind, permeating my soul with new life. I’d never tasted anything until that one moment. Jasmine, an elegant white star, sweet and airy infused this dessert and the way it felt moving through my palate and face into my chest and body till it shone from my skin. Uplifting, expansive, remarkable. A purely clean botanical intoxicant with no after effects except this very desirable one ~ JOY. Inspired with this experiential memory I came home to layer perfumes around this scent and then I started on recipes with chocolate sauce of all things. A warm gorgeous fluid ripe with fruit and mystery highlighted with this blossom. Everyone who tasted it became instantly high, asking for more. I began producing round glass containers filled with this confection for luxury events. Taste testings always swooned with laughter, people loving the mixture and I felt satisfied seeing their happy faces. Joy can be tasted and remembered forever.
